NEBULIZER
NEBULIZER
Nebuliser is an important piece of biomedical equipment that looks tiny, compact, and adorable but has the potential to save a lot of lives. This device comes in handy for people who have respiratory problems like difficulty in breathing etc. This article is about some important facts regarding this fascinating piece of novelty.
Children of small ages (say 1-3) do not have properly developed digestive systems. Hence the parents will grind the food and feed it to them so that they can ingest it properly. So this grinding is done for those who cannot ingest food normally. Similarly, the nebulizer helps those who cannot take medicines normally.
WHAT IS AN NEBULISER?
There are several ways to deliver medicine to the lungs such as inhalers. Nebulizers are another type of drug delivery device that turns the medicine into a fine mist that is breathed in. nebulizers are used to treat a variety of lung problems, such as wheezing and chest tightness. The device consists of an air compressor, nebulizer cup, mask or mouthpiece, medication(2 to 5 ml), and compressor tubing.
HOW DOES NEBULIZER WORK?
The nebulizer is a device that converting a solution into a fine spray by using pressurized air, which makes it easier to inhale the drugs. All nebulizers are electrical are battery-powered, unlike handheld inhalers. The fine spray is administered through a mouthpiece or a full facemask, depending on the patient and the requirements. The nebulizer typically has to be used for around 5 to 15 minutes.
HOW TO USE IT?
Each time a nebulizer is used, liquid medicine needs to be added to the machine. It is important that for the duration of use, breathing is only done through the mouth. Nose clips are recommended to ensure this . While many can use a simple mouthpiece, fill masks are usually recommended for children.
TYPES OF NEBULIZERS:
* Jet: This uses compressed gas to make an aerosol(tiny particles of medication in the air).
* Ultrasonic: This makes an aerosol through high-frequency vibrations.
* Mesh: Liquid passes through a very fine mesh to form the aerosol . It is also the most expensive.
WHO SHOULD USE NEBULIZER :
Nebulizers are especially good for infants or small children's asthma medications. They're also helpful when you have trouble using an asthma inhaler or need a large dose of an inhaled medications. You can use a nebulizer with a variety of medications, both for controlling asthma symptoms and relief right away. These includes:
* Corticosteroids to fight inflammation. (such as budesonide, triamcinolone, etc..).
* Bronchodilators to open your airways. (such as albuterol, formoterol, etc.. ).
DISADVANTAGE:
* When compared with an inhaler, the nebulizer is not easy to transport.
* Require stationary power source and it is noisy also.
TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR NEBULIZER:
* Always have an extra nebulizer cup and mask or mouthpiece on hand. If you get a breathing treatment in your doctor's office, ask for the tubing cup and mask.
* Follow the equipment directions on checking, cleaning, and replacing the filter on the air compressor.
